Can I join the Challenge individually?
No. If you want to participate in the ReThink Waste Challenge, you need to be part of a team that consists of at least two persons.

Yes. If you want to participate in the ReThink Waste Challenge, you need to be part of a team that consists of at least two persons.
What is the recommended size of a team?
Ideally, student teams should be of about 4 students from diverse backgrounds relevant for your innovation
How much time does it take to participate in the Challenge?
On average you will spend 8 hours per week working on your team’s submission but it will vary depending on the phase of the Challenge and your role within the team. Typically the periods around the deadlines are more intensive and team members with significant team responsibilities (such as team leaders) invest more time in the Challenge.
I have just graduated from the University. Can I participate in the Challenge?
Fresh graduates are welcome to join the Challenge. The graduation should not take place earlier than the academic year 2021/2022. Fresh graduates should not exceed 50% of team members.
Can a team consist of PhD students/ fresh graduates only?
No. PhD students and fresh graduates together cannot exceed 50% of the team members.
Is it mandatory to participate in all events during the Challenge?
Participation in the Sprint Days is mandatory. Participation in other events is not mandatory, however it is strongly recommended. The events organized as part of the Challenge are designed to help you with your entry.
Are all events on-line?
Most of the events are hybrid events organized at the campus of the Wageningen University & Research.
Can I get study points for participating in the Challenge?
This depends on your University. We recommend discussing this with your academic advisor. Students of Wageningen University can receive study points for participating in the Challenge upon completion of the course Student Challenge Learning Journey 1 (YWU51803) and 2 (YWU52309).
(WUR Students only) Can participation in the Challenge replace Academic Consultancy Training (ACT)?
Unfortunately the participation in the Challenge does not replace ACT. Please consult your academic advisor in case you have any doubts.
How do I form a team?
- Log in to the online platform.
- Select ‘Competition’ button.
- Tick the box ‘I want to continue with my own project’.
- Click on ‘Add team member’.
- A unique share code will pop up. Use this code to invite team members.
How do I join a team?

- Click on the ‘Competition’ button.
- Tick the box ‘I want to join an existing team’.
- Enter the unique code that that will be sent sent to you by your team captain (see previous section).
How do I find a team?

- Click on the ‘Competition’ button.
- Tick the box ‘I want to join an existing team’.
- A list of teams that are still looking for members appears.
- Click on ‘I would like to join this team’ and explain why you’re motivated to join this team and hit ‘Send’. The team you are interested in will get an email notification.
How do I find team members?
- Log in to the online platform.
- Click on the ‘Competition’ button.
- Tick the box ‘I want to continue with my own project’.
- Go to ‘Team Info’.
- Tick the ‘Yes’ box in the ‘We are looking for team members’ section. This makes your team visible to participants who are looking for a team to join.
- If participants are interested in your team, they’ll pop up in the ‘Members’ section and your team will get an email from them.
How do I find other individuals that want to form a team?
- Log-in to the online platform.
- Click on the ‘Pinboard’ button.
- Make a new pin (regarding the forming of a team) and make sure to add your contact information (i.e. email).
- Click on the pencil to public your post.
- Other individuals that want to form a team can email you and you can accordingly see the posts of other individuals that want to form a team and email them.
